Selling an item and it took the buyer a few days to pay. He says he has paid, but nothing has come through. I questioned him on this and he said that I have to accept the payment on PayPal? There is no visible payment and I have never had to do this before? Is he trying it on?

Sounds like it.

I assume he's paid via PP through eBay rather than direct PPG to you?

Does it says he's paid on your eBay account, if not, ask him to do it again.

I've had to accept payment once when money was being sent to my account (outside of eBay) from someone in the US. If you login to your PayPal account, it should tell you I think.

On eBay it says payment pending/awaiting payment and my linked PayPal account shows no evidence of any transaction. Irritating, not had any problems before.

Until payment received via eBay page, I won't do anything as he/she maybe trying it.

Make sure all communications via eBay. Did you limited a time for payment to be made by? If it's hit passed it, alert eBay to get the investigation going in case of dispute.

Apparently, looking at payment on ebay, it was made yesterday. I have an option to look at the paypal transaction, but nothing shows up? Underneath my item it says 'Estimated funds availability*: Unavailable'. Is this a new feature? Clicking on the link suggests that there is possibly a Paypal hold, although nothing in my Paypal account shows this?

Would I be best going through the resolution centre or to Paypal direct?

It could have been sent as an e-cheque. This sort of thing can happen when payments are made like that.

However, your PayPal account should show *something* in relation to it.

Absolutely nothing at the moment and the ebay link just comes up with a page where I can either log out or open my account (so tells me nothing) :(

This happened to me once.

eBay had somehow managed to change the email address for payments to my registered eBay email address instead of my registered PayPal address, so it showed as having been paid, but because I didn't use PayPal on that email address it never showed up when I was looking for it being received in my PayPal account.

Might be worth confirming with him what the record shows for the address to where the funds have been sent.

Good idea, I will ask this exact question :)

Hmm, looks like it has gone to my old Paypal account - even though it was closed and replaced in ebay with my new one. What a pain.

Had similar with paypal recently - my old card expired and I changed everything (including subscriptions, etc.) to the new one and 2 weeks later they tried to process a transaction on the old card details :S - they'd managed to do several before and after that 1 transaction with the right (new) details :S.

Well I have tracked down the old email address, added it to my current account, have sent a confirmation email to it...and the email won't arrive :(. That is the last hurdle, but the emails just won't send. So I have contacted the buyer asking if he will cancel his payment and resend to my main PayPal address...probably the simplest solution.

So eBay fails again.

I reported it to them when I had the issue because it was not off the result of anything I did - I had been receiving payments fine then one day it just changed having not done anything.

eBay customer services failed to grasp what was actually going on and kept on just telling me how to update my email address.... In the end I gave up. Certainly looks like some kind of bug in their systems.

Well, a bit stuck at the moment. The buyer said the new Paypal address wouldn't work - I find this hard to believe, not had problems before. So we agreed that it would be easier to cancel the purchase. Problem is, I set up a cancel request in the resolution centre and now the buyer isn't responding! I want my final sales fees back! Am I stuffed?
