paypal e-cheque wtf is that?

It's not a scam, but it is a pain in the butt.

Basically, it's exactly like a real cheque and takes a few days to clear (unlike the usual Paypal Instant Payment).

whats the point in it?

" Q. Why should I use an eCheque?

A. When you use eCheque, you don't have to have a credit card or alternative funding source attached to your PayPal account. In addition, using eCheque means you won't incur credit card debt, since the money comes directly out of your bank account. eCheque is like writing a cheque, only faster and more secure".

funny i just let my credit card expire on paypal. so the money now comes out of my online account. which is registered with paypal, still takes a long time to clear. it never used to take that long before, but i guess because they had my card details on file they felt they had a back up. :)

I just bought something off Ebay. I've used it for years but when I came to pay for the item an e-cheque was the only option it gave me to pay? Whats that all about?

I've used my normal debit card on there for years?

Im having this same e-cheque nonsense, ive brought a couple of things on ebay over the past month and it used the e-cheque system, never had this before. It took 8 days to clear and therefore an item i would have normally had delivererd within 3 days took 13.

Im going to have to look into it, i think i may have to add a credit card to my paypal account so the transction is instant.

having your bank account set up with paypal would be much easier

I have had to use them before, it wouldn't allow me to use instant bank funding, something about scams? I mean wtf? I knew the person I was sending it too!

If you dont have a credit recorded as a back up funding source, you can only send E-cheques in certain transactions.
It still takes the money from your bank, it just bounces to the credit card if there is nothing in your account.

The first and only e-cheque I accepted took nearly 3 weeks to clear. I'll never accept them again.

I had a CC as backup :(

Your debit or credit card has possibly expired?

Happened to me the other week, paid and didn't look at how it was going and left a message to the guy asking if he could send the item out ASAP and he told me once my payment cleared he would. I wasn't sure what he was on about so checked my paypal first and noticed it said the payment was uncleared. My debit card expired in Nov and hadn't used it since early last year so that was why it happened to me. Got the payment refunded and sent out payment again, though the payment will still leave my bank account and stay in paypal but I needed the item urgently.
