Paypal & E-Commerce

SagePay or WorldPay - probably the biggest two in the UK - you'll need an internet merchant account with a UK bank attached to a business account though - unless its changed since I last looked in to it.

I've hooked up a fair few ecommerce websites in to SagePay, never any real issues and their support is top notch, and their rates are very competitive
 
I'm surprised to see so many people recommend SagePay. Personally, I find it unacceptable for a payment gateway to be completely down for days on end.

It really depends on what you mean by "another e-commerce business". One big advantage of PayPal is anyone can sign up straight away with no wait and no upfront costs and start taking payments. If you're looking for something similar to that then your options are a bit limited I'd have thought.

Or you can sign up with a proper payment gateway, but as mentioned, you would need a merchant account from a bank, which is time consuming and costly.

You also need to consider what software you are using as there may be limitations there, unless you are willing to do integration work.
