Does Royal Mail Recorded Delivery satisfy the requirements of proof of completion by PayPal?

Having read the documentation online, I'm still unsure, as the PayPal help files specify that proof of delivery and postage must be given. Does the proof of postage you can get from the Post Office in conjunction with the Royal Mail Recorded service satisfy these requirements, or do you PayPal users tend to stick to Special Delivery only?

I know that Royal Mail recorded in itself only offers proof of delivery once the item has been signed for, i.e. no tracking and I assume no proof of postage unless you specifically ask for it.

So I'm looking for some first hand advice, as RM recorded is the method I've specified in the selling terms so I don't want to lose money by using the more expensive Special Delivery if I can help it.

Thanks.

If you send it recorded you get a bit of the label with the address you posted it to from the post office, that's your proof of postage.

Thanks...so it's 'a' proof of postage, but is it definitely PayPal-approved proof of postage? Trying to protect myself of course against the good old 'item not received' dispute.

As mentioned above, make sure the buyer has a confirmed / verified address and keep hold of the recorded delivery receipt that has the reference number on it.

If it was an ebay sale, it's also a good idea to send the buyer the reference number via ebay once you've posted it (so it'll be logged in their system).

Another step I always take is to photograph any packages or parcels that I send (while I'm in the post office and after the postage labels have been applied).

It's just another precaution and it only takes a few seconds, but it gives the buyer a bit more peace of mind if they have a picture (especially when selling in the MM).

It also helps to cover you against those who'll sometimes try the old scam of saying "you never sent it" or "the packaging or contents were damaged"...or if you need to make a claim.

That's my advice anyway :)

Or you can pay for the postage on the paypal site, and it automatically enters a tracking number. Just click on 'print postage label', then drop the parcel off at the postie. This way, there is no waiting around but you do need a printer and weighing scales.
