Logged into Paypal yesterday and it said I am close (£1650) to reaching a limit of £1900, and that they request for me to send or upload some proof of ID. This proof can be Drivers License, Passport, Utility bills etc.

Is this a scam or a legit thing to do?

It says I have 133 days to respond or my account will become restricted.

Dont see why I should need to do this, Ive been with them for about 4 years and my bank is confirmed, but they want more information.

Any suggestions?

Cheers :)

If it was an email I'd be crying scam, but if you've logged into the legit paypal site then I doubt it's a scam.

I had no email, it only came to light after loggin in on there site.

Even so, I dont feel comfortable sending that kind of data

You give them your credit/debit card details/bank details/direct debit details/name/address/dob/phone number/ebay transaction details.... and you are quibbling over proof of id?

I'm pretty sure they need it when you get to a certain amount due to anti money laundering laws.

When I make overseas transactions I have to provide a copy of my passport for the same reason.

Seems strange that they ask you for ID though?

Edit: didn't realise it wasn't an email.. reading fail.. my bad!

I know it was 100% safe when they got my bank information as I confirmed the small deposits they put in, also checked it with my bank.

Sending photographic ID and other information is a bit different, considering my passport etc has a signature on too

It's not a scam - I had to do the same. But dont take our word for it - phone support to confirm is the safest way. You could, for example, in theory, have a browser hijacker in your system.
