PB278QE-GSYNC with AMD card - 85Hz only

Sold my 970's and went with an AMD card thinking yeah ok, I wont be able to use GSYNC anymore. No problem, I can still use 144hz for now, and then get a Freesync monitor at the end of March.

Nope. My 295X2 point blank refuses to set the monitor to anything higher than 85hz. All the options are there up to 144hz, but whenever I set 144hz, it automatically jumps back down to 85hz. This is highly frustrating as there is no reason why 144hz should not work.

Am I missing something?

No your not missing anything, there are widesread reports of AMD cards not liking 144hz

Only further enforcing my thoughts months ago with the EDID requirement changes for 4K 60Hz, in that some Hawaii GPU have a weaker signal.

so it's probably something that could be addressed in a driver update?

I dont know what the cause is, it could be hardware as in the actual DP controller they are using.

Tbh, my thought is that it's just the gsync module interferering and causing incompatibility with my 295X2. I have a good feeling that once I get my freesync monitor next month, I shouldn't have any problems

So I load up Counter-Strike Global Offensive, and now 144hz suddenly works. Ok.

Prolly due to the higher core clocks in 3D mode.
