Evening folks!

I'll try keep it short:

A long standing member of our gaming community's wife lost her battle to cancer on Weds night. He's a retired gentleman so has loads of time on his hands and as of Wednesday, a huge gaping hole in his life.

As we take care of our own, we're all chipping in to build him a PC. Costs will need to be kept as low as possible whilst still meeting our criteria:

A) 1080p gaming minimum, 1440p if budget allows.
B) Must run most modern titles fairly well, including Star Citizen.
C) Due to his circumstances, he will have time for a new hobby so upgradeability and the ability to tinker with it will be preferred.
D) As above, must be future proof.

We have no idea of budget, there are a TON of variables on the table at the moment like whether we wabt exclusively new or will be able to use used components, or what hand-me-downs we can get our hands on.

Same for peripherals.

In an ideal world we'd build him a brand new monster pc so that's our starting point and we'll have to compromise whilst at the same time trying to up the budget.

I know this is very vague but I'm hoping you guys can give us a starting point to work from.

So, whatcha got ladies and gents? All input appreciated.

Thanks :)

Some fantastic suggestions in here, thanks all. That build above looks ace too, I might have a spare monitor and some goodies lying around as well, will have to have a look.

Thanks all, any more suggestions will be greatly appreciated <3

Hi again!

What's the consensus on a GTX 1060 6gb for £150? That offer's on the table for us and seems to outperform the RX 580 according to reviews, plus it's a £50 saving.

Brand new, just not sure which brand it is.

The 580 and 1060 are on an even par tbh. Swapping to nvidia means you would probably try and get a Gsync monitor [mucho dosh], whereas AMD, you'd look for a Freesync one [much cheaper].

Not sure that monitor above has either tbh.

Are there no bits he already has that you can reuse, or is this purely a nuke from orbit and rebuild like a mofo on christmas morning?
[that probably sounded better in my head than it reads, but this is a Diddums thread, so guess it fits]

Great, thanks. We're going for the 1060 for now purely down to price but if our little crowdfunding operation goes well then we'll re-evaluate.

We're at £500 so far.

What's the consensus on this?
