PC and 360 Versions of BioShock Different

Ah, for some reason I thought it was Bioshock 2 so I was on about the first game which is why I asked for info about it :D

I'm still hungover

It is the "spiritual successor" to System Shock 2.

The delay is internal, if you read what he said. The PC version is behind the 360 version because they are gonna submit it to MS later on. Probably because the "Games for Windows" testing process takes a lot less time than the Xbox 360 process.

I don't mind them talking about the UI changes. They are not really making a big deal out of it. They just mention it in the interviews they give. They have also talked about the PC version not having aim help and such like as well. Not much else to talk about when the game is basically the same on both platforms.
Except that the PC version will certainly play better.... because gamepads suck ;)

i got a bad feeling that this is gonna turn out into rainbow 6 vegas again. they say they making it for pc but i got a feeling they making it for 360 and porting over to pc, since larger gaming userbase is on 360 compared to pc and also lot of people won;t have quick enough pc to run the game properly with anyways.

the last 2 unreal engine games on pc were crappy ports with bad performance. i can;t help but see this not being any different. only time will tell though i guess.

Ah, I meant to reply to this earlier to say that I may have been a little hasty with my post - It was made whilst I was tired/etc.

@Cyber-Mav

I think the whole point of making a fuss about this is because the game *is* being developed primarily for XBOX360. They're trying to make it clear that despite that, the PC version won't feel like a bad port.

ahh, most bad pc ports don;t even support the mouse in the games user interface. so thats what they are going to make sure that the user interface is like a proper pc one.

i can expect performance to be the same as rainbow 6 vegas. anything with the unreal engine 3 is probably the same these days since its all for consoles first then comes the pc.

i rekon ut2007 is gonna be the same too with ported performance. but iv said this the day rainbow 6 vegas came out and the robot game came out too. both use ue3 and are badly coded, not enough speed compared to other pc games which have better graphics.

but this is the future of pc games though now. its all going to be console ports. more money in console games i bet.

only game im looking forwards for now is crysis. thats supposed to be built for the pc from the ground up. so if that game performs badly then its gonna have to be console time for me then.

Considering the amount of games released each year for the PC that are NOT dodgy ports, I don’t think that future will be any time soon. I think as time goes on, hopefully with Irrational Games leading by example (the first of many potential companies), future ports need not be dodgy at all but instead games worthy of our precious time. That is assuming, of course, that Irrational Games deliver an acceptable version of BioShock for the PC.

Porting isn’t a bad thing. It’s only a bad thing when done… well, badly!

*edit*

Oh please don't ask me to name a port that wasn't dodgy... I honestly can't think of one lol. But I did enjoy Halo PC, when I could finally play it one year later after several upgrades...

That's all well and good aside from the fact that UT2007 has been developed on the PC and is being ported to the 360 and PS3.
Bad ports are bad ports are bad ports. If people stopped buying the likes of R6:Vegas and RE4 then developers will take notice.

Buy games that perform as expected on a high end PC. Don't buy games that perform badly.

The main culprit of awful game ports is Ubisoft. GRAW2, R6:Vegas and RE4 are testament to this (at least i think the RE4 port was handled by Ubisoft).

Agreed.

So if Irrational Games can break the mould, so-to-speak, by delivering an awesome PC version of BioShock, it will prove that ports don't always have to be a disappointment. Hopefully other software companies will follow their example.

What is worrying is ID is getting into consoles more, where they were mainly pc at one point.

Simple fact they can make more money from console games, sadly thats how its going now.

I fail to see how it's a sad thing. What with the hardware developers wanting more and more ludicrous prices for their items, the PC gaming market is killing itself and encouraging growth on consoles.
