PC Anywhere - Help!

My workplace has purchased the PC Anywhere software to allow me to access my work computer from my home to perform various tasks.

But, I have a few questions.

1)Is the host computer the work's PC?

2)Is the remote PC the home pc?

At work there are around eight computers networked together via LAN and wireless. There is an old 3com router to allow internet access( I think that's the brand anyway ) and a LInkys switch, but that's being changed to a Netgear 10/100 one very soon.

I know I will have to port forward definatly the work's router to allow the incoming connection, and maybe the home router to - to allow outgoing connections.

3)All computers have had an individual IP address setup for that in he TCP/Ip options thing, so I was wondering is PC Anywhere okay with such a setup as I know you have to type the IP address of the computer I want to connect to in the setup thing, but then I've got the problem of how does Pc Anywhere know which pc in the office I want to connect to?

I hope people understand and thank you for any help.

If you use XP Pro in the office then you could've just used RDP instead (free and far better experience).

1) & 2) - Yes

Do you have a server in the office? If so, it might be better setting up VPN (a virtual private network) connection on it. This then allows you to VPN into your work's network (giving you access to any network resources). Because you'll be a part of the coporate network, you can then enter your internal IP for your work machine into the PCAW client and it will be able to see and connect with your work machine.

If not, yes you can forward the ports for PCAW onto your work machine in the router. It would probably be an idea to give your work machine a static IP address (so it doesnt change) and forward the necessary port(s) onto that IP address. In this scenario you would type the external IP address of your office (WAN IP in the router) and the router will forward the incoming connection onto the IP address specified in the port forwarding rule.

EDIT: or thinking about it, you could even use Hamachi to create a VPN between your home and work machines....
