Or at worst, very good value for money. Need to be able to remote to 5 machines and be able to deal with routers and firewalls easily as well as dynamic IPs.

All 5 of the machines are on a 192.168 subnet, its if the ISP IP changes, I need to be able to deal with it.

Thanks

www.logmein.com

There free version is fast free and secure and means you can access the pc's from anywhere with an internet connection.

I currently use to remote control nearly 500 work machines and have never had a problem yet.

Do you need the people using the pcs to be able to see what you are doing?

Windows xp has remote desktop included and the routers you will be going through should have port forwarding on them as I said, unless you need the people to see what you are doing as rdp opens a new instance desktop rather than sing the persons existing one.

Its not essential that they see what I'm doing, although it would be nice.

I thought RDP was a real ass killer when it came to dynamic IPs and routers etc?

Another one for LogMeIn
No hassles with port redirection on Routers/Servers and no Firewall hassles

Ple if you pay you can get IT Reach which allows so interesting diagnostics too

Thanks guys, just played with LogMeIn and it works a treat.

One question though. Do you have to go through the Web Interface?

hamachi is the same as logme in basically, but you can use remote desktop over it

hamachi just creates a vpn with all the computers you want it to

But hamachi is just the VPN creator, you then need something like VNC to do the remote, which is nasty on CPU usage (imho).

Whereas logmein is one bit of software, that you can put on as many pc's as you like and then no matter where in the world you are on which machine you are on you can access your computer at silly quick speeds.

i mean to use it with remote desktop :)

what's the experience like with logmein? is it better than RD? can't say i've tried it yet

when i was doing a microsoft course, the lecturer said he used to use logmein on his massive networks, but it caused a few spikes in network traffic (this was a while ago and could well have been fixed by now :) )

Got to admit, been having a good play since the suggestions were made. Looked at Hamachi too but LogMeIn is just soooo easy and quick.

Its true colour it seems in even in low colour setting. Loads of settings to configure too if you want (like stopping the client from using Keyb/mouse, hiding their screen, etc).

Really really impressed. Give it a shot
