Hey guys. My PC will shut off by itself, I've notice it do this during 2 things. When Crysis Warhead gets to the Main Menu and when using the Unreal 3 Editor, when im about to play a created level after building it. does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?
Spec is
Q6600
4GB (2x2GB) OCZ Vista Performance Gold RAM
GTX 260
600w EZCool PSU
ABit P35 Pro XE

It runs Crysis on very high at 1680 with 2xAA so overheating isnt an issue.
The PSU does only has the 4pin to the motherboard not and 8 pin power plug. could this be the cause? would gettin a 4pin molex to 8pin adapter help the problem?

Thanks for any help guys.

Does the memory voltage and timmings need setting up in the BIOS, are you running at stock or overclocked.

motherboard has 8 pin. manual said i could use the 4 pin lead from my PSU as thats all it has.

Everything is at stock voltages, speeds etc.

Absolutely no offence taken Andy, appreciate the input and kind of thought it may be the PSU myself. would it more than likely be the fact that im using a 4pin power plug instead of the recommended 8pin plug. do i have any options other than buying a new psu?

could try a 4-8pin cpu power connector just to make sure.? or if you have a spare psu lying about pop that in to test.?

no everything is fine temperature wise. Crysis Warhead makes the PC turn off literally seconds after it loads to the main menu where as i can play Crysis on very high with 2xAA for hours with no problems. could drivers be an issue at all?

not tried reinstalling warhead. will that help if it does it on unreal 3 editor too though?

hey guys. just a quick update. tried it using the UnrealRuntime Editor which is really old and my PC turned off when trying to play a built environment. does anyone have any idea if its simply a driver issue because i dont want to spend £70 on a PSU for no reason.

Have you got blue screens turned on or is it still on automatic restart? that could give some important clues. It will also allow you to tell the difference between something causing a crash and automatic shutdown due to heat.

go to control panel>system>advanced>startup and recovery settings>untick automatic restart

PK!

theres no blue screens. in unreals case, when ive just loaded up a map created in the editor the PC just turns off (even if its just a box with a 1 light.) its definately not a heat issue. the the CPU and GPU are very cool when it turns off.

Think it is the power supply, before it turns off theres a very faint whinning noise which seems to come from the power supply. As it seems that the power supply is the problem, how can it run Crysis fine yet fail to run an Unreal Editor that is quite a few years old.

I had the 650w version of this in my PC and it failed after 10 months. Went quietly and without fuss. My PC simply clicked and went off, but never came back again until I replaced the PSU.

TBH my first thought was GPU related. Have you got the latest and most stable release of driver for your card?
