After some advice, recently acquired some new PC parts from a forum member and will be upgrading my outdated PC (see sig for details) on Friday. The new(er) parts are:
CPU: A64 X2 4400
HSF: Thermalright XP120 with 120mm Amber Ultra Quiet fan
Mobo: Asus A8N-E Socket 939
GPU: X1800XT 512Mb Powercolor
RAM: 2Gb 3200 DDR -2x512Mb Geil Golden Dragon, and 2x512Mb Corsair XMS3200
PSU: Enermax Liberty 500W Modular PSU
Sound card: Audigy 2 ZS
DVD-RW: Pioneer DVR 111
Monitor: Samsung 20" 205BW TFT
Going to use my Seagate existing HDD's (120Gb IDE and 200Gb Sata) and Antec Sonata case.
Main use: gaming, surfing and occasionally work
I will be overclocking this as well.
My questions are:
1. Is this HSF better than the A64 arctic cooler in terms of temps and noise?
2. Any recommendations for drivers and/or bios for mobo and gpu as I'm going for a fresh install of windows.
3. Any optimisations available for windows xp pro with regards to 64-bit hardware?
4. Software to install for optimising performance.
5. Is the enermax psu more suitable than the 380w antec psu included with the Sonata case, and is it as quiet?
