Hey guys,
i was wondering if anyone could help me solve an issue i'm having with my friends pc. a couple of weeks ago she turned it on and it wouldnt post, nothing but a black screen, so she yelled at me to fix it :>
anyway, long story short, the setup was a Abit NF7-S v.20 with 1gb corsair value select 2x512mb ddr400 dimms, and a 2500+ amd athlon xp, oh, and a leadtek nvidia 6800 agp graphics card.
i tested the gfx card with another machine and it worked fine, and so did the ram, so i assumed it was the cpu at fault, so ordered a new one (2500+ barton) and alas, when it arrived, that wouldnt post in the board either.
so i ordered a new motherboard, the epox 8RDA3+. that arrived today, i built it (with the new CPU) about 20 minutes ago, turned it on, and success! a lovely post beep, and the post screen showing up on the monitor, cpu speed displayed [clocked down], but then it finds the ram, says its fine, and in dual channel mode and then it hangs. cant get into the bios, wont respond to any keyboard action, even numlock. tried it with just one stick of ram and still cant get past that bit. the epox has a LED display on the board to 'diagnose faults' and the first time it said '64' and the second time it said '6d' and there are no references to either of these in the manual.
so.. any ideas? im thinking of trying the old CPU to see if thats ok.
thanks in advance,
rob
