Hi all,

Build a storage system recently to run unraid.

Spec:
Asus q87m-e
8Gb DDR3
5 x 3TB WD Reds
SSD
BeQuiet 650w PowerZone

I've never had it running successfully. I had Unraid running and when I powered it down it would not power back up at all. I could leave it for awhile powered off and it might work again. I thought it was the PSU being faulty as the motherboard LED would light up when PSU is on, but hitting the power does absolutely NOTHING.

I swapped a 1000w PSU into it today and booted perfectly, shut it down and repeated the process. Was all good. Then put side panel back on tidied up some cabling , put it away and went to power it up. NOTHING again.

So far I tried

Clearing CMOS
Reseating cooler/CPU
1 stick of RAM.
Built it outside of case
etc.

Im beginning to think faulty motherboard?

Any help would be appreciated before I throw more cash at it.

Believe Ive solved this. Found a post on a random forum from 2011.

There's a jumper supposed to be on CLEAR_RTC pins. There was none on it from day 1 and manual says it has to be there or else it will cause boot issues.

So far so good.

Also BIOS battery might be dead.
Motherboard is certainly old enough that it can happen anytime.
And new battery certainly isn't expensive thing to try.

Sorry I left that out. I replaced the battery recently too hoping that would fix it.

It was the CLEAR_RTC jumper that was causing the issue. It didn't have one when it should have. System is working flawlessly now.
