Ive cleard cahe to no avail.

Any ideas?

sorry for errors its an azerty keyboard :{

Are you using windows XP or Vista ? Do the keyboard and mouse work before the system freezes or do you never get anything from it ? I have seen issues with corrupt chipset drivers causing no USB devices to work at all.
If its ok in safe mode try removing any USB devices apart from KB and mouse (printers, Ext HDDs ect) it might be worth running msconfig and disabling all the un needed start up items and see if it will boot like that. If you dont have any luck with that try running chkdsk /r - to see if there is any corruption on the disk. Post back and let us know how you get on :)

I'm on XP 32 bit
All usb devices are unplugged apart from keyboard & mouse, all extra internal HD's are unplugged.
It seems to boot up and will allow a ctrl alt delete for example but will freeze soon after.

I tried to install gfx drivers again but it won't let me do it in safe mode as it says directx isn't installed.

I tried running a chkdsk from safe mode, rebooted and in hung at 82% on the last test (file integrity test?!) and now I can't stop it running at startup in normal mode.

Thanks for the help!

System is
p5n-e sli
4850
4gb corsair xms2
e6300 - stock

hmmm, how long did you leave it for when it froze on checkdisk ? it can sometimes go past it if you give it enough time.

Can you even get in to safe mode ? The drive might need a full format or may have had it. usually you can get HDD bootable diagnostics from the manufacturer website. It might be worth a go.

Are you able to or have you got a backup of your data ?

Cheers,

as for backups I usually stick another HD in and grab that data from the old drive but unfortunately I have no more lying around atm

try memtest (takes 3 odd hours) although ram normally makes windows reboot.
