Pc Boots, but no Display

Hopefully someone can help me here, because all I can think of atm is that it has to be some sort of bizarre motherboard issue.

My pc runs 24/7, rarely even being rebooted, never mind switched off, no hardware has been changed since changing an x850xt for a x1950 pro 3 months ago, and no new software/ updates/or drivers have been installed during that time

Basicly I went to bed, got up, pc's running but has a black screen

I'm thinking maybe it's went into hibernate, or has a screensaver issue, so i reboot after trying the usual 3 finger salute

I still get no display, even during POST, although can here the board's selftest, (asus k8n4-e delux), and everything checks out fine.

The monitor light changes from orange to green, and i hear it entering windows, but still have no display.

I've tried the monitor on another pc, and its working

bought an hd 2900 thinking it was the card, still no display, and the other card works in a dif pc

I've took the ram out one stick at a time, still no joy

disconnected drives

the board should be detecting problems, but doesn't, and the monitor seems to pick the card up ok, or it wouldn't change to green

So basicly although everything boots fine, and seems to run fine, I've got nada on screen although the card and monitor do work

any ideas?

I was thinking maybe freq set too high as well, but that would only affect windows wouldn't it, and should still show a POST even if it was set wrong?

(although I haven't changed the freq, but some games have a nasty habit of doing it)

I would be thinking its either your board, processor or ram. Although you have checked your ram, have you tried replacement ram in it?

no i haven't tried replacement ram, but do have 3 sticks in it, (ocz 3200 platinum) and have tried them all individually, I can't see it being likely that all 3 would have problems

I'm also not convinced its the cpu, although i don't have a spare to test on it, as the pc boots and runs fine, and can be shutdown fine, just has no display

yes it boots fine, and i can shut it back down or reboot it fine from windows using key commands, although i can't see what i'm doing obviously

May be driver corruption. Try booting up in Safe Mode, and see if it works.

Can't get to safe mode, as I have no display

and come to think of it, any driver issues would only be an issue once enetring windows, and wouldn't affect/prevent the post screen anyway

Meh, I misread. Check all physical connections and make sure the card is fully seated. Give me a moment to get my brain in gear.

Sounds like a problem with the graphics card slot on the M/B

I've already disconnected/reconnect everything, and tried 2 different cards in it, my old one that i thought was faulty, (although works in a dif pc), and the new hd2900 which i bought to replace to alledged faulty originally card

Thats what I keep arriving back at myself, as the only logical explaination, however...

if it was dodgy, surely the pc shouldn't boot, as it shouldn't detect the card, or the board should warn me theres a problem during its check (voice post reporting detects no problems)

also the monitor seems to detect it as well, (albeit without displaying an image), as it changes from an orange to a green light when plugged in?

checked around the net and found a few people with similar problems, but no solutions

anyone else have any ideas, or ran into a problem like this?

If your monitor is fine, and the card is fine, everything is seated properly, drivers are fine, and all connections and power cables are secure, it's your motherboard.

does sound like the mobo slot but i suppose you need to keep that for a last resort. how about trying a different lead from the psu? a longshot!

Yeah I had exactly the same problem on my pc and I had to get the motherboard replaced. The agp slot on mine was faulty so although the motherboard detected the graphics card it wasn't sending a signal to it to display but the pc still booted with no error or post codes.

Have you tried the card inh the slot at very slightly different angles as that used to help me with my problem until the slot died totally.
