Hey All,

Im speaking for a friend ive been round his house and haven't been able to come to any conclusion on why this is happening so im coming here seeing as you guys are way more experienced here is his account.

'CPU fan spins, GPU fans spin, Mem OK is green. Sounds like it is booting up, or atleast like my computer used to. Monitor just says check input signal then says going to sleep and yeah'

He using an active connector which is what i use for VGA to HDMI.
His monitor is HP 2009v

Any help is appreciated!

My bad his parts are

FX-6300
M5A97 R2.0
Sapphire Dual-X R9 270X
EVGA 600B

An FX-6300 does not have on board graphics. AMD have got a range of processors with integrated graphics (commonly referred to as APUs) but that cpu isn't one of them.

He is using a 270X so it'll have DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort options - can you use any of them to test? (Or just to use come to that)

Edit: are you going from HDMI to VGA rather than VGA to HDMI? The card will have come with a DVI-I to VGA adaptor if you really need VGA, so use that instead of HDMI as output, though it'd be better to avoid conversion all together.

I know itd be better to avoid conversion at all but he can't afford a new monitor.
Hes converting VGA Output from his monitor to HDMI on his GPU.

I don't think it did come with an adapter, ill ask give me some time.

have you tried booting on each ram stick individually (if there are more than one) just to rule it out. I know the memory test passed, but stranger things have happened.

Just to be clear, he is converting the digital signal from his HDMI port on his GPU to VGA for his monitor to accept not the other way round - if the converter is VGA to HDMI then it will not work. If the adapter is HDMI to VGA then it should work (though still undesirable).

Has he checked the back of his monitor for a DVI input? Few monitors in the last 10 years have come with only VGA.

If you have an HDMI port on the GPU, then could you try plugging it in to a TV? At least that way you could get windows installed.

I'm probably missing the point otherwise I'm sure someone would have suggested this already.
