got around 450 - 500 ish on a full pc, monitor yes but mouse / keyboard / speakers not essential.

not overclocking, light gaming and internet / office work.

Tight on this budget. Some pre-built systems are available at a good spec for this price. HOT. So maybe look around. UK. I dont know where? DEALS. zoostorm?

Yeah would need vista home premium x64 sorry forgot to say :o

Was trying my best to get a core 2 duo, maybe a lower graphics card as there will be very little gaming on this computer.

Is their really any need to go for Intel if you can get a faster AMD system? :)

Sorry im not trying to be anoying or anything by speccing you a AMD system, its just, if your spending as little as £400-£500 and your not overclocking, you will get a better system by going AMD. :)

Can he not just get a cheaper E2140 and overclock it to the same speeds as the AMD 4200+ and even beyond, much better idea on a tight budget and imo better bang for buck.

So is the choice of processor mainly based on if I will overclock it or not?

I was thinking the E2140 and overclock it on the stock cooler a bit to say maybe 2.4ghz , your right there is nothing wrong with an amd system at all I just thought that a E2140 overclocked would be faster then an amd system since the intel chips clock so easily.

The choice of that AMD CPU is that it is faster than the E2140 at stock and the same price.

I speced you a AMD system.

But if you are going to overclock go Intel, providing you can get a Motherboard and Memory that will actually give you a chance to overclock.
 
oops didnt really work my first post too well :o

I meant to say I wasnt going to go for some crazy overclocking!

Thanks for the spec though I will take it into consideration against a intel spec of that price as pretty much the only difference will be the motherboard and processor, the rest of the spec is exactly what I was looking for thanks :)
 
Anyone with a tight budget should really consider overclocking, its such a simple and easy process and theirs lots of guides and people on these forums willing to help, overclocking is the best option for anyone who's on a tight budget such as yourself.
