PC Build advice

so i am looking to build a new PC. i haent built a PC in over 10 years infact the last one i built i ordered from here when XP was still in Beta

with the help of a user on here Mick Woods

i mainly game on a PS4 but i want to get in to PC gaming and mainly racing sims.

Here is the PC i have currently spec'd out

ASRock 990FX Extreme9 Motherboard
AMD Piledriver FX 9590
Raijintek Triton AIO Water Cooler
MSI Radeon R9 390
Kingston HyperX Beast 16gb DDR3 2133mhz ram
Crucial BX100 250gb SSD
Fractal Design Newton 800w PSU
Cougar Volant 2 midi tower
couple of extra 120mm fans

i guess my questions are these

1) is this spec of machine AMD vs Intel to mind a good setup with a little future proofing? i understand the intel processor is more efficient. but with DX12 around the corner will the AMD come to life so to speak?

2) is 800w PSU enough?

3) is it worth buy 32gb of ram instead of 16gb?

4) my next logical upgrade in a few months will be to add another R9 390 is 2 of these enough or just over kill? and if the 800w PSU is good enough now will it still be good enough to cope with 2 r9 390's?

any help greatly appreciated

lee

Hi and welcome.

1) Go Intel, it's faster and newer tech and the boards have more features and more modern tech.

2) 800W is enough even if you wanted to add a 2nd card.

3) For mainly gaming 8GB is plenty.

4) See 2

What is your total budget?

Do you just need a tower without OS, keyboard, monitor etc?

Can you build a PC or does it need building for you?

so my budget is about £900 i can go more although i dont really want to. i have a screen and keyboard so i just need the unit. i already have windows 8 and office etc

i can build it my self shouldnt be a problem :)

cheers for answering my questions. there spec above comes in at £889 (using some B-Grade stuff) but if i build it with this bundle

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-008-GI

then its £998.

is the intel £110 faster. i have to admit i have no idea on CPU's at present a lot has changed since my Athlon Days of old. :)

I built something very similar to this the other day for a friends new PC,

cheers ill take a look in a min :)

so basically keep away from the AMD 9590? i thought from what little reading i did do that with dx12 it might come to life is that not the case?

You can use the other plugin made by Pho on chrome. The Chrome plugin doesn't seem to work anymore for some reason.

As it stands I'm about to place my order for the amd system. I can't see the i7 being worth the extra £120 but can any of you suggest other options that might be quicker for he same price ?

Cheers lee. I didn't order anything last night as I fell asleep.

How does the skylark i5 6600k compare to both fx9590 and the older i7 4970k?

The i7 4790k smashes everything AMD can bring at any price level. It's more than worth the extra if you want something that's going to run faster, cooler and last longer before you feel the need to upgrade again. And that's coming from someone who's got an FX8320 running at 5ghz :p
