Hi all

Long time since I have been active on here. My sons decided he wants his first PC for gaming - up until now its always been the consoles.
He's turning 15 and wants to buy this himself.
Budget could be from £400 - £800 depending on what he gets.
He was unsure if to buy new or go for second hand to get him going and upgrade in the future.

Games he playes is MS Flight Simulators (when they work!)
Football Manager
Fifa
GTA 5 (wants it to be able to play 6 when this finally comes out)

Hopefully this gives you all an idea of what he would ideally want spec wise
He has a monitor, key and mouse etc so this is just a base unit he needs.
I looked at some of the OCUK gaming systems but feel i can build for cheaper if i shop around for him.

Thoughts and suggestions, any advice appreciated as I havent built a PC for a fair few years now so not with the current suggestions etc

What resolution is the monitor? If you don't know then the make and model will do as we can look it up and find out. We need this so that we can pick a gpu with enough grunt although the price is going to be the main restriction.

nice one @Tetras

Appreciate the build

Would you recommend Intel over AMD then?
Been out this game for far too long!
Im thinking long term if he was to upgrade in future would Intel change the socket type etc sooner than AMD would etc

You can get a Ryzen 5600/5600X and B550 motherboard for similar money and they perform similarly, so up to you.

They're both dead sockets I'm afraid. Intel have moved to a new socket for 15th gen (renamed to Core Ultra) and AMD are now releasing CPUs on AM5.

ah didnt realise
have taken a bit of time this morning to read up on it all to see the current situation.
I may suggests he goes for an AM5 socket just for future proof
i dont mind adjusting the budget as long as the system is right at the end of the day

Appreciate the help!
