PC build - Around 1k budget

Photo runs best with Intel still, believe others stated 4 cores is the perfect amount for it - and then core speed

new intel 8th gen i3's are now 4 cores and 4 threads like i5's of past, old i3's were 2 cores and 4 threads.

would you be self building or buying pre-built?
 
Monitor is fine, imo. Have the 23" version myself, mildly overclocked at 72Hz. IPS screens like that are preferred for Photoshop, generally. Gaming not quite as smooth or responsive as with higher refresh rate screens but you can definitely game on it. A proper gaming monitor could be a future upgrade, alongside the MX279H for Photoshop etc, perhaps. Spending just on the case and parts will allow for a better system, as well.

A few questions:

Are you willing to build yourself?

Are you sorted for Windows?

How much storage room do you need to begin with (consider that you can easily add more drives further on as long as case can handle it). Going too high on storage means not as much can be spent on performance (processor, video card etc), but obviously don't get less than you see yourself needing in 3-6 months or so.

i3-8350K is like the i5-7600K, just newer and cheaper and now called i3. Nice cooler for overclocking (ask for advice in these forums if needed, it's not hard) to improve gaming and photoshop perf.

There's a little left in the budget to go towards the build fee, however it will probably be a little over 1K (you can ask OcUK if they will do it for £1K, sometimes it can happen).

Once you decide on a spec, post it in the Customer Service forum and ask for a quote (the build fee will include the standard warranty on pre-builts).

Yes, good shout, if needed (they built a system for a family member for £30 :) , they can surprise/ you can negotiate.

This one is about 30% faster than the i3-8350K (when/if all cores/threads are used). Same speed otherwise, clock for clock (4.7 : 4.7GHz).

My bad for not looking, but you should look at 3000mhz ram, should be no problem fitting it in with couple of the build configurations.
