I think I have made my final decision now. What are your thoughts on the build below?

Edit: Build changed, seen post #11 below.

Asus P5K Premium WiFi-AP
OCZ 4GB PC2-6400 (800MHz)
Intel Q9450
Noctua NH-U12P
Corsair 520W HX V2 Series Modular
EVGA 8800GTS 512MB
Vista Ultimate 64bit OEM

Board is older, didnt have support included for that CPU when they made it.
I had to with that board my E8400 C2D.
it's very simple, i put the ROM file on a USB stick and used EZflash in the BIOS.
it wasn't a prob cause i have several other computers but if this is going to be your only machine, read up on the proceedure first and prepare :)

So, you suggest I have the BIOS update on a USB stick; have the pc built complete; boot up with USB stick plugged in and then update the BIOS.

But won't the PC complain that it doesn't recognise the CPU before that stage?

Edit: Maybe I should just go for the Asus P5E instead?

Changed my mind completely, this should now (hopefully) be my final decision:

ASUS P5E3 Deluxe/WIFI
OCZ 2GB (2X1GB) DDR3 PC3-10666 Gold Edition Dual Channel Kit
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 (bought already)
Noctua NH-U12P
Lian Li PC-A05 (bought already)
Corsair 520W HX V2 Series Modular
EVGA 8800GTS 512MB (bought already)
500GB Maxtor
Win XP (bought already)

Any thoughts or tips? Thanks.

Again, I can't see any problems. I would have been swayed towards the P5K myself but that's probably just because that's what I have. :p

Only change I would suggest would be a Samsung Spinpoint instead of Maxtor, simply because I have had bad experience after bad experience with Maxtor drives.

Your P5K is using the Intel P35 chipset. The P5E3 I want to get uses the X38 chipset and DDR3 ram. So I guess it is a step up.

Just looking for the Samsung Spinpoint HDD, might change to the 750GB number with 32MB cache.
