Hi

I've not had a gaming PC since 2009 so I'm a little out of touch!

My budget is around £1000 or a little more if it's worth it and I'm willing to have a go at building it myself or is it worth paying a little more for a pro built machine? I have BFV and COD on Xbox but I don't think DayZ will ever be much good on Xbox so that's my main priority for the PC. I don't plan to stream content and the PC will be pretty much exclusively for gaming.

A spec list would be really useful or a link to some good spec lists or sites for sourcing parts or complete units. Should I go AMD or Intel? I'd like a machine that will last me ages and be easily up-gradable over time to prolong it's life.

Thanks!

Matt.

For your budget it seems to make sense to go Ryzen 3600 and 5700xt...

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £940.04 (includes shipping: £11.10)

All you then need to add is a case which is personal preference as I probably like totally different to you

Thanks mini biker.

If I could spend a bit more would I be better going for Intel i5 9600k and would this affect compatibility with those other parts? What would be the most upgradeable spec over time?

Thanks

No Ryzen 3600 performs better than the 9600K.... If you are going intel you'll need to change the Motherboard as its AM4 socket not Intel...

Intel and upgradability don't fit into same page. Heck, not even into same chapter:
Skylake's fith rebranding is bringing already third socket for 6th gen Skylake architecture based CPUs.
While next year's Zen3 architecture based Ryzen 4000 CPUs will be also compatible with AM4 motherboards.
With upgrade path up to 16 core/32 thread CPUs.

And 6 core/6 thread CPU is buying new PC for the games of the past.
In year next-gen consoles will bring pretty much underclocked 8 core/16 thread Ryzen 3700X as base line for game developers to make games for.
From that games likely get 100% exclusive use of 7 cores/14 threads.
While that PC Master RaceIntel Cash Cow Race 6c/6t has at most 5 cores/5 threads available for game without disturbances.

Thanks for your advice everyone. Maybe I’ll be better waiting for next Gen Xbox because more and more games will support keyboard and mouse but I suspect pc will perform better and last longer.
