Hi people,

My mate is looking to buy a pc and im trying to help by looking for him.

His budget stands at about 500 - 550. The build will need everything ( Tower, Monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS, Microsoft office)

He will mainly using for playing some pretty standard games.

Thanks in advance,
Jake

With regards to software, is your mate a student? If so, then he could get some good discounts on software like Windows and Office. I got MS Office Pro 2013 edition for £8 for a full version as I belong to an educational establishment. All he needs to do to is order from the MS student site and follow the instructions. I also think you can get Win8 64bit Pro for £49.99 fully licensed

[Apologies if this post is against rules for referring to another point of purchase for software]

You got MS Office Pro for £8? Or is that a typo.. also on the topic of the rules.. due to the special eligibility required I can't see why this would be classed as a competitor post.

Yes, £8! I think it's limited to one licence per customer though.

I told my brother about it, who works at a private company and he found out that his company offer something similar to their employees and he bagged a copy for about £8-£10 too.

I think it's only large corporate places that are able to implement this as part of a deal or something. Basically they purchase a site licence and are 'probably' offered deals where staff can also purchase additional licences for home use. I'm sure there was something specific about employers that allow working from home etc - that employees working from home must have access to software at reasonable rates etc.

Anyway, yes £8! Eight Great British Pounds! :D

Same here. Through work, I can get 2010/2013 for the same price. W8 is only £12.

That is through my work. :)

Yes, that's kind of what I meant, cheapest I can get it from work is £49 for Win8 and MSO Pro 2013 for £8.

I stuck with my Win7 ultimate on my new build, if I'd have been able to get it for £12 I'd have gone for it.

Oh well, I'm sure I'll be doing a fresh install in a year or so....
