Hello all,
I pop in here when i need to ask the best community for advice on PC components and builds,so its that time where my son no longer gets my "old" pc, he has some money to spend and i think its a good opportunity to get him to "build" a pc.

We have a top end budget of £2,500.

No real preferences on manufacture for anything, just some build specs for me and him to look at,black case, some RGB lighting but nothing crazy, not needing a monitor as can upgrade that in the future,he has a 1080 75hz display at moment, will likely become 2nd monitor in the future.

He is a gamer like myself and has a wide range of tastes from AAA to indie titles, currently hes playing Destiny 2,Elden ring,Cyberpunk, so a decent GPU/CPU combo for the frames and a bit of longevity would be good.
My last build i had specced here is going strong with 0 issues and i know a lot has changed in the last few years,so i await your suggestions!

Thanks in advance

no,we can wait for the monitor down the line, more the PC build thats needed, i suppose a 27" 2560x1440 monitor will be what hes looking at though, not sure he needs a 4K monitor,so please take that into account. :)

Think you've missed the point, spending 2.5k to run at 1080p 75Hz for what could be years is bonkers/pointless. Might as well spend £1k and end up in the same place. Unless you want to spend the budget on over priced fans and such.

Edit:

CPU: Intel Core i5-12400F 2.5 GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 240 56.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus PRIME B660M-A WIFI D4 Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
Memory: Crucial Ballistix RGB 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory
Storage: Crucial P5 Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon RX 6600 XT 8 GB PULSE Video Card
Case: NZXT H510 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Fractal Design Ion+ 760 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Total: £1028

That is what you can do for £1k right now, easy upgrade on the CPU of you ever need it, PSU is excellent and will handle any decent GPU you want to add, space to add more RAM and more M.2 SSD's. Nice case, good cooler, probably swap to ATX board or M-ATX case though.

Thanks H2S04, I'll check those parts out as well.
Some solid choices and lots to choose from, he also looking at a white theme now as well , so I'll start looking for suitable components too, like a child in a sweet shop though!

My idea for a sweet white theme build, using Intel's new 12600k which I think is a better buy over AMD right now ;)

I'd also recommend going for the white Corsair Vengeance RGB RAM sticks, but OcUK seem to have de-listed them. So may want to shop around if you fancy those to brand match your Corsair parts. :D

Another shame too the Gigabyte Vision 3080 isn't in stock or listed anymore either.

On a side note, you can save a fair chunk of change if he doesn't go white btw. All these manufacturers seem to charge a premium for it over black! :o

My basket at OcUK:
Total: £2,457.85 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Aye, I was thinking that the white is more expensive, thanks for the list tho, much appreciated.
Will let him see all the builds options and I'll let him choose, can't wait to get it built with him and see his face.
Cheers

Thanks to all who replied with build suggestions, sons PC is now built and up and running.
Lian Li case is great to work on, NZXT aio cooler is easy enough to install and, we ended up going with a crucial 2tb m.2 and a zotac 3080,sleeved extensions for tidyness as well,it looks good and my son is mega happy.
Thanks again for the component suggestions.

I couldn't remember how to post pics properly.
I think I'll run the gpu extensions down thru the ssd mesh directly under the gpu, it's not very tidy in relation to the the USB 3.0 header but the back of the mobo is very slick and tidy.
Son is well chuffed with the monitor and his new desk as well, plus he can play around with the ram rgb etc, nothing too crazy rgb wise tho.
He's happy and that's the main thing.

@Buckleheid sorry just saw your reply! Great build mate, I'm sure your son is well chuffed with the new system indeed.

Good job, like it :D That case really helps with cable management too! Good decision on the parts.
