I've just built myself a new gaming PC and it's given my 10yo son a taste for it.

He currently uses an old Xbox so moving to a pc seems to make sense with the game pass and he can use for school.

He mainly plays Fortnite, Sea of Thieves and online games with his friends

What would it cost and could anyone recommend a spec that would be suitable without breaking the bank?

He'd need everything but a monitor as I've got a spare ultra wide screen he can use

I read that part :D I was asking which online games, because there's a big difference between some little goofy browser game and the latest AAA, like Warzone 2.0 (especially @ 1440p).

It's 3440x1440
Yikes, that's not ideal for building on a budget.

Any recommendations on a full spec?
Graphics card:
- Ideally I'd get a 6700 XT, but they're hard to get around £300.
- The 7600 XT 16GB is a reasonable long-term choice as the 16GB will come in handy, but the raw horse power is less than the 6700 XT. I also wouldn't want to pay much more than £300.
- The RX 6600 is capable of 1440p and is my choice for budget builds, but the realistic lifespan at this resolution will be very short and even current games will need reasonable settings (i.e. not ultra with ray tracing!).

Case
- You can get a cheaper M-ATX case, I used to suggest Aerocool's Trinity Mini, but it has gone up to £40 again.

PSU
- There are cheaper PSUs, but the AMP is built by Seasonic, is a well-proven design (they've sold A LOT of them, across different brands, including Asus & Antec) and has a 10 year warranty.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,049.81 (includes delivery: £11.98)

Ah sorry, as of yet he's not into the AAA titles online. I'm sure it'll come in the coming years though

I did think about getting him a new monitor but I thought with the cost of buying a new monitor, I'd rather put into the build and he use my old monitor

Thanks for the spec. I'm sure he'd probably sell his xbox in favour of this as its pretty much the same for gaming so would be a contribution towards it
