PC Build - Guidance

Hello all, first time poster, lurker for a while.

I've decided to take the plunge and build my own PC. Mostly it will be used for general use to do with work, playing games, poker, general internet browsing etc etc.

Top end budget is £1100 for the actual rig as the other £900 will be used for the U3011. I will also be buying 20" dells to go alongside this in the near future as well so this will have to be taken into account with the graphics card.

Because I'm on my work PC i can't post the spec i currently have in the basket because i can't get the BB code (i will do this once home today).

I know the offers will change as of tomorrow, hopefully i will be able to get a solid spec that will be fairly future proofed but also with the ability to expand if needs arise. e.g. SLI

Can anyone spec me something around this and i can post my spec later to see where we can change things?

Sorry for the long post!

And because I'm such an idiot, we will need a full spec apart from mouse/keyboard/speakers etc these i currently have and will upgrade as and when i need to.

Posted my spec currently in the basket to give you some insight into what im looking at.

Is anything significant missing? What could be replace to enhance the rig substantially or save some money somewhere else?

Any help is much appreciated.

Looks pretty good to me to be honest :). Only thing to think about is tomorrow the weekly deals change, so you're ram/ssd/gpu could all go back up to full price, but other stuff may go down, luck of the draw really.

Yeah not bad at all bud

750W is enough to SLI the 670. Faster DVD drive for £1 more. Alternate case (comes in grey too). You could use the developers copy of windows 8 and buy the OS in october once windows 8 is released. The RAM is more but a reputable brand with a better CAS rating and XMP profiles.

Ice213:

Yeah i know they change tomorrow but i don't mind if its a few £ either side of the budget. Essentially wanted to see where i stand with the specs and if it would fit together well and what i could change.

Probably looking to buy at some point next week, just thought i would give myself a week or so to make sure i have a good spec.

thanks though.

Honosuseri:

I was wondering about the power supply as i wasn't sure if 750w would be enough, just wanted a decent modular psu. the corsair from what i read have decent customer service as well so thought it was a good shout.

About windows 8, not sure if im going to go windows 8 or stay with 7 for a while. Not sure about pro's and con's with this. Haven't looked a great deal into it yet although i should do.

And cases, i don't have a clue what case i want haha. I just through the sharkoon in there just to average a price.

Any suggestions with cases with good air flow and tidy looking would be great.

Only thing I'd be wary of there is the PSU, I've got the xfx xxx edition and have the stupid ticking noise which to those sensitive to it, could drive you crazy. If you're not really bothered by it though, it's a brilliant PSU :D

And for the hell of it, here is a slightly different build to consider too:

I've got the non lp version of that ram and it's great, and also a fully modular PSU there too from corsair. No case included as that's down to taste and what you think looks nice really, and with that it's still under the £1100 :)

Just as a base then the GPU, processor, mboard, hdd, ssd and cooler would all be straight into the build?

Just a matter of playing with cases, psu's, ram and whatever may change as of tomorrow!

With the deals tomorrow, will they change first thing in the morning so i can re evaluate? Or does no one know?

Cheers.

Just a quick question between the two psu's provided in the thread.

1 x Corsair Professional Series AX750 High Performance 750W Modular '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply (CMPSU-750AXUK) £129.98

1 x XFX 750W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply £96.98

From what i can see, not a great deal of difference. I'm swaying more towards the corsair though. Does it make much difference?

The XFX PSUs are good (rebranded seasonic). Personally i'd go with the XFX, it's cheaper. If the price of the corsair doesn't scare you, maybe get the XFX and use the difference in price to up the storage HDD to 2TB.....that's what I would do anyway.

Yeah, don't let me put you off the XFX at all, as I say, I've got one myself :).

Ok, ill keep with the XFX and go for more storage, maybe SSD over HDD as i have a 1GB external drive at the moment.

Now for the worst part.. case time! I'm so undecided about case, not sure whether i want it to glow like a spaceship or just be clean and simple.

Maybe THIS then.

Comes with 2 fans. Windowed so if you want to LED it up you can see inside.

Right, final check on the spec. Anything else can / should be changed??

Is it worth buying all tonight or do i take the risk on tomorrow's deals?

screenshot below because i couldnt find the tutorial from earlier on how to post as has been done above :(
