Hello All,

I need to build a friend a new PC, his old one died and before speaking to me he threw the thing out about 2 months ago but kept the HDDs from it.

I plan on using one of the HDD's for storage and then throwing in a SSD, the other drive is a IDE drive so I am going to put that in a external enclosure to get the data from it.

the PC will be used for gaming only and the internet etc.

now I was thinking of the I5 range but cannot decide if I should go for the K version or not, he is not computer minded so will never overclock the PC so debating if its worth saving the money and getting a non K version CPU

so what would you guys suggest? he needs the complete PC (not OS) and a monitor, nothing fancy on the monitor as its just for gaming so doesn't need to be 4k, a standard monitor would be fine

I wasn't given a budget but would like to get it as cheap as possible for him but if there is something worth getting which will benefit the build then can throw it in. he has a keyboard and mouse as well

thanks a lot!

It's would be easier to spec with a budget in mind, otherwise, it's all guess work

I have spoken to him and got a quote of £600, doesn't matter if its AMD or Intel as once its built he will not be doing anything on it from gaming and internet

thanks

Just would like to chip in that the Sapphire 280 comes with free games whereas it appears the MSI doesn't? May be wrong here though, but it may well be worth going for the same price Sapphire as it's ensured to come with the games :)

And it also seems this PSU for £1 more has a bit more warranty and is still Seasonic OEM so might be worth looking at

Always buy k chips. You can change your mind and overclock with a k. It will also sell easier down the road.

I've just overclocked my dad's i5 760 to 4ghz so it handles arma 3 better. We weren't going to bother with an overclockable board at the time but very glad that we did.

Stopped him having to upgrade his pc.

But, the MSI has 3 years warranty compared to the Sapphire's 2 years.

Good spot on the Psu, btw. :)

What sort of games are we talking?

I personally would spend a little more and future proof the GPU to say a GTX970 - Superior card in practically every way.
