I posted yesterday about a PC which I was having problems with connecting to by remote desktop.
I have completely formatted and reinstalled Windows. I have installed the driver for the Linksys wireless network card. This PC *still* cannot get an IP address automatically. On my Linksys router (WRT54G), I can see a list of all the PCs on the network. The 3 PCs which work fine show up as they should, with the name of each PC and it's IP address shown. When the 'broken' PC is trying to acquire an IP address, another entry appears on my router. It shows the IP address 192.168.1.5 but the name is blank. This is obviously the PC which is failing to automatically gain an IP address.
Does anyone know why it is doing this, and how to fix it? The router is obviously seeing this PC, but the PC is not broadcasting it's name to the router, and it's subsequently not connecting. How can I make it broadcast the right information?
BTW, all of the PCs are wireless, and all use the WMP54G wireless network cards.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.
