Hey guys, having a wee problem trying to figure out what AMD hardware supports Hyper-V

Would the following support Hyper-V?

AMD Phenom X4 Quad Core & Gigabyte GA-MA770 Motherboard?

If not, do you guys have any suggestions for hardware that would allow Hyper-V?

I cant seem to find any information regarding Hardware Virtualisation support.

Cheers.

Hyper-V is just a front end for virtualisation.

It requires 64-bit.

So anything made by AMD in the past 3 years will run it :]

Intel's hardware virtualisation won't come online until 2009 (to the best of my knowledge) and even that is generally reserved for high-end servers.

What AMD chip is it? You don't want to be running it on one the early Phenoms. (9500/9600)

You also don't want to be running the higher end quad cores on that mobo... :)

The CPU i was going to get is;

AMD Phenom X4 Quad Core 9850 2.50GHz Black Edition

What Motherboard would you suggest for this CPU ?

Cheers.

9850 is a good choice, the earlier chips had some issues with virtualisation that's why they should be avoided.
As for motherboard, it's really up to you. Just make sure it states that it's compatible with the CPU on the website. There were plenty of motherboards that were frying themselves as they couldn't handle the power requirements of the 98/9950's.
