Did I do a bit too much weed back in the 70s and missing somethine, or are new cases missing a place to put the DVD drive?

Yeah, I know last time I built a system with a floppy was late 90s :)
Just how to install windows etc without a disk drive?
bummer, looks like an external DVD required, wouldnt have thought removing a DVD bay would save the manufacturer any money.

I haven't installed windows with a disk for ages, us cool kids use usb flash drives. Microsoft have a website you can go to, to create one ("installation media").

Some cases have an internal disk drive bay, so you could install one in reverse (if you can still open the tray :o ).

There are a fair few cases still on the market that have a tray, the last one I got was an Aerocool QC-203. I've also seen them have a slot on the top, for a laptop drive.

Thanks guys, found a nice looking case on here,
As I watch DVDs on my system, a DVD is a must have.

LoL using a tape deck to load games onto a ZX Spectrum. The funky static noises whilst loading and most times it would fail and had to take the tape back to WH Smiths. I would like to say they were the good old days but I so much prefer current PC tech to a game of Manic Miner.

I'm not a fan of new budget case designs in general. Nightmare for cabling, accessing the PSU etc with all this shroud nonsense, drive cages wedged in 1mm away from the PSU, panels on the front blocking the air intake etc. As mentioned sometimes no obvious home for an optical drive, although that's becoming less relevant (I am kind of resigned to the fact that I should just digitise/repurchase the numerous old games I have on CD/DVD). The only thing I like in my new cases is the top exhaust, that's a good enhancement.

Shrouds are on the way out in favour of dual chamber designs as everyone goes to copy the O11D.

If you really really still need an optical drive, I'd just buy a USB external one, for the one time you might ever need it, then it can be stored away.
