PC constantly crashing.....

Basically my PC was fine a couple of weeks ago but was getting abit cluttered with games and stuff so i decided to format little did i know this was gunna happen, everytime i try and download anything via steam or anything my desktop just crashes and i have to reboot my PC, iv formatted atleast 3-4 times since this started but to no effect. Anyone had the same problem or have a solution? its really starting to get on my nerves. I've dont the memory checks and its fine also the windows repair and nothing came up im really running out of ideas.

specs are
Q6600 at stock 2.4
evga 8800gt crysis edition
4gig geiL ultra
250gig samsung

thats steams problem? does it happen anywhere else?

Run prime95 and memtest to check stability

Reformat was a little drastic at this stage..

Your first port of call is to head of to the recovery options.

Control Panel>Advanced Tab> THen click Setting under Startup and Recovery
Under system Failure, untick the Automatically retart tick box.

If the error happens again, then you might get a clearer indication of the problem.

Next, Take a look at the event log viewer under Control Panel. Log for ant errors and google any erroneous codes etc.

Make sure your chipset and video drivers are upto date. Check the Drivers under device manager for anything untowards..

As for your hardware, make sure you have your memory set at the correct voltage and timmings.

Lastly, for now, make sure you up to date on hotfixes and your AV is upto date.

It doesnt only happen with steam happens also with other downloader programs, blizzard downloader ect , some days it doesnt happen at all :/ last night it was especially bad i would turn it on and after 1-2mins it would freeze up so i left it for a night and today i took everything out and reseated it, i also took out 2 pieces of my 4 pieces of RAM to see if it was faulty after the windows memory diasnotic tool came up with nothing. it hasnt "fingers crossed" crashed yet. i have a feeling its my harddrive though is there any program to check it?
