I recently sold a PC to a friend which used to belong to my brother. My brother used it fine for about a year without any issues but now my friend is having a continally beeping noise comming from the PC.

This has happened 3 times now. Each time it happens there is a usb flash drive plugged in to the front port of the computer (antec P180 mini) and work is usually being edited in word from one of the flash drives.

The issue has happened twice today and the document in question has stop responding whilst the PC is beeping for about 30seconds to 3mins or so. As soon as they are able to work on the document again the beeping stops.

To me this sound like there is a problem with the usb flash drive, perhaps when the document decides to auto save it doesn't have access to the drive for some reason? The stange thing is though they have no issues with the flash drive when used on computers at their place of work.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Eventually the issue happened whilst I was over there, and what they didn't tell me was that the keyboard stops responding but the mouse still works. The document doesn't hang or stop responding, its just simply that the keyboard wasn't working and I could still highlight stuff using the mouse on the document they was working on.

I was still able to access the flash drive so I dont think that is actually causing any problems. What I think may be the cause is the mouse and keyboard are plugged in to the PS2 connectors (my brother used USB mouse/keyb), so to test it I have removed the PS2 adapters and have plugged both the mouse and keyb in to USB ports and hope this fixes it.
