Whilst I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue, I thought this might be easier to post here for now.

In the past week or so my PC has started to crash after watching video files for a while. The video starts to jitter and slow down, and then the PC just freezes up. I need to reset the PC using the reset switch, as nothing responds.

I started to check event viewer to see if there was an issue, and nothing is showing up. No programs showing errors or anything. No error codes. However, when scanning the drives, they all seem to be fine. I have used the WD tool to check the WD drive I have, and SeaTools to check the Seagate drive. I also check my memory with MemTest on UBCD. Also, all my drivers are up to date.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? Could it be my codecs? I use Shark007 codecs and MPHC that is pre-configured to use its codecs.

If anyone has any ideas, it would be great. Thanks

If its only started in the last few weeks, ad be inclined towards software related personally.
Have you installed anything in the past couple of weeks as that could be causing problems?

Might be worth a shot at Microsoft Fix it Solution Center.

Playing video files crashes or freezes Internet Explorer or Windows
Automatically diagnose and identify codecs that may cause Windows to become unstable or to stop responding. Windows uses codecs to allow users to view digital audio and video streams in Windows, Internet Explorer, and media players.

Am afraid am all out of ideas other than check drivers are all up to date.

Do you have any power saving functions active? (Screen saver, Sleep, or does your monitor and hdd turn off after a set time). Try turning them off, or set to Never.

Don't know if this will help, but all i can think of.
