Hi All,

Wondering if you guys can assist? I recently built a PC for a friend and its occasionally freezing whilst playing games - its completely freezes and you get a screeching noise over the headphones and needs a force restart.

It happens on various games, today he played for 3 hours on Skyrim with no issue and then it did it twice in 10 mins, yesterday happened on Dying light after 15 mins then fine for a couple hours. Nothing overclocked as he isn't the best with PC's.

Up to date on drivers from the MSI site and Nvidia - Running Windows 10 x64

Spec's below - anyone see this before or suggest what to do?

Intel 6600 (non-k)
MSI Z170A Gaming Pro
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB
Gigabyte 960 G1 Gaming
Corsair Builder Series CXM 600W

I stress tested the PC before I gave to him with Heaven and Prime 95/Aida for a good few hours - temps were all great as well.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, beer tokens would be given if i can!

Thanks

Molesy

Have you setup BSOD logging? It could be that the PC is having a hissy fix but since no logging is enabled its not giving you the BSOD.

First try the ram memory ,play with 4 GB on it,add another 4 Gb same thing untill you have 16 Gb,if is not the ram test the video card in another pc for 2-5h,the last option that you have is put a new paste on the cpu,but before doing this win 10 is known for freezing with some pc & laptop ,additional things to do check hdd make sure you dont have any loose wired in your case,or sometimes BEST case is reassembly the pc make the problem go away

I keep getting crashes on my pc. They don't completely freeze my pc just crash for a few seconds. It has been happening for a while with all the newer nvidia drivers. Maybe it's a worse version of what I am getting? You vpuld try finding an older nvidia driver but like you say it can be fine for upto 5 hours before it crashes.

Check in your Event Viewer for the time and date it last happened and see what is recorded. It may hint towards the problem.
