Hi all.
1st post so sorry if this has been asked before.
My main Pc (old Evesham unit) has died. It has been having issues for a few weeks now & it won't start up. The symptons are: I press the power button & the button flashes, but nothing else happens. I have checked inside & when I press the power button, the fans briefly spin (for about 1/2 a second) & then stop. It was working ok, then it would be difficult to start (needed a few prods on the power button to start). Also, sometimes the pc would appear to start (fans whirring) but no monitor activity & very little hd activity. I have unplugged & re-plugged the main power plug into the mobo but with no change. There does not appear to be a LED on the mobo - or if there is it is not lit.

My system is:

Foxconn P9657AA- 8EKRS2H mobo
4gb ddr2 ram
Intel core 2 duo 2.4ghz (I think) cpu
Nvidia 8800 GTS 640mb graphics (the original one from 2007)
Twin 250bg 7200rpm hd's
Soundblaster live value soundcard
600w power supply.
Coolermaster CM 830 case.
Win 7 32 bit upgrade (from vista)
External western digital 1tb WD book drive using USB.

I am hoping it's the power supply, but it may be the mobo.
Can anybody give me any pointers on how to diagnose this?

Try taking out the extra components and see if it will start up with on board graphics, processor, motherboard and a single stick of RAM. Try with each stick individually.

Sounds like an issue with the PSU to me. If you have another PC lying around, you could try the PSU out of that and see if it will boot with basic components

I would be inclined to think it's the PSU myself. Can you test another one or get hold of a Multimeter to test the existing one? It's straightforward enough to do.

Hope it is.
If it's the mobo, can anybody tell me what would be a good (but not extortionate) replacement mobo, that will be compatible with the cpu/video/ram of the above?

I was thinking maybe this one?

the psu came with the pc.
There is what looks like an interwined FSP & "epsilon 600" stated on the side.
edit: the rig is almost exactly 4 years old.
edit edit: found it, this one.

I'd bet my house on it being the PSU. Like everyone else said. Get a hold of another one and try it out. Don't bother stripping down to bare components just yet, wait and see if it boots up with the new PSU. If not then start diagnosing

Just to say - I had to get a new PSU. My laptop just isn't up to the job. I got a OCZ steathextreme 2 600w. Connected it up to test & the Pc just fired up.
Took the old one out & plumbed it in. All working now.
