Ok pc is dead, daughter turned pc on and fans span up etc but didn't make it past post and into windows. Have change fuse in kettle lead, still nothing, no lights on motherboard even before pressing power button. All other items monitor, printer, ext hdd have power. Can i safely assume psu is dead. Corsair tx650 19 months old purchased as part of a ocuk system. Manual says 5yr warranty so do i rma it with ocuk or have to contact corsair ? In the mean time is there any other checks i can do ? Have seen xfx 850 psu on this week special offer any good ? Could get this to try while i rma the corsair. Would psu have taken anything else out do you think ? OS is on ssd so hopefully hdd is ok. Thx in advance.

Yeh i think you can safely assume your PSU is dead.

I maybe wrong so someone correct me if so but I think after a year the parts for warranty
are with the manufacturer, I'm not sure how this stands on pre-built systems though, just
give OcUK a call a see what they say nothing to loose from asking.

Had only a week ago rma'd ram as 1stick had died. Not good after only 19 months with good quality named products, although ocuk were really good handling rma direct for ram as it had lifetime warranty. Xfx 850 modular psu any good thats on offer this week ? Or stick with corsair?

Thx stulid, what about corsair tx850 v2 that's a seasonic i believe doesn't have to be modular as will follow ninja cable management by ocuk build.

Oh well, got to RMA through Corsair according to Ocuk as out of 12 months. Better do the paperclip test just to be sure before i setup RMA. Anyone had any experiences with corsair service regarding psu's ? Is it a quick turnaround or should i order a replacement first ? Am thinking either corsair tx850 v2 or xfx black 850, noted that xfx has short power cable though.

Update, Ocuk are now handling my rma cheaper postage yeah. Have ordered another corsair tx850 v2 this time hope it's more reliable than the tx650 i have. At least the new one is made by seasonic. Roll on Monday. Time to undo all the ninja cable management.

850 watts is overkill. I'd normally say go for a better PSU with less watts for the same price, but in this case you've chosen a good PSU anyway, you could get away with less watts.

Not if i'm going to go crossfire or sli in future. When i upgrade from 5870 to newer 2 or 3gb cards. Rather have a bit of headroom. Also not that much to choose from at that price point.

My budget was £100.00 and thought it best to get the most for my money. Won't this be less stressed than the tx 650.

If you only need 400 then 850 will be just as stressed as 650. If you are intending going xfire in the future though then it does make sense to have a bit spare power.

If you look at efficiency graphs for power supplies, and you look at 200W or so (that's where PCs sit around most of the time) then there isn't much difference in efficiency between a 500W and a 1KW PSU.

As you said though, crossfire or SLI in future would mean you'd be stretching it with a 500/600 watt PSU, so the 850 is a good choice.
