As title my pc has started to act up while being on the desktop or web browsing .

The problem in question is a loss of picture on monitor (goes to a black screen) which lasts only for a second at a time and seems to come very sporadically (could be 5-10 minutes b4 it happens ar as much as 10 times in a minute:mad:).

I'm pretty sure its not a monitor problem as lights on monitor stay on while the blackout happens. Also never happens whilst running the mmo i play(which can be for hours at a time either playing or afk stalling etc).

I'm gonna guess at it being one of three things either mobo, the card itself or the psu but really dont have a clue as to which it could be.

GFX is a GeForce 7800GT, mobo is Abit LG-81 mATX (has a problem with rear sound output not working so could point to it having other problems) and the psu is some generic crappy thing that came with the case (the problem here being that the psu i bought to run the system ,which was an enermax Liberty, upon being fitted the fan faced the top of the case instead of facing down into the case as though the case was drilled to fit the crappy psu which itself was constructed badly as the fan of that faces into the case.Cant remember the name of this case but sure someone could id it as it was available at ocuk and relativly popular at the time as its a mATX with a handle that flips out on the front and a 120 mm fan at the back.Wandered of track abit there, sorry :p

Is anybody able to throw a few ideas my was as to what they think it could be.System is quite a few years old but apart from this is ample for my needs.

Mine used to do that for a while, it was a graphics card problem where it would either cut out, or the drivers would stop functioning for a second and the card would reboot itself to give me my picture back.

It seems to have sorted itself out so i dont know what specific solutions there are =/

tbh i was already on old drivers when it started (cant remember which but dont remeber updating for awhile) but updated to latest today and still get the same problem.

Have you got an LCD TV you could hook up to the PC , to see if it happens with that.

I wonder whether it could be either a refresh rate or resolution issue, with either the graphics card or monitor being at fault..

Does your graphics card have 2 X connectors?? You could try the other if so. Otherwise try and get hold of an OLD graphics card from somewhere - is yours AGP or PCI-express?
