Hey guys,

My brother just called up to say his PC has died.

He was downloading a game and all was running fine until he plugged in a USB headphone set and the the PC shut itself off.

When he tries to start the PC the fans run and after about 1.5 seconds it shuts off then 2 seconds later tries to boot again in a constant cycle.

I have gotten him to remove the front USB header cable incase the issue was there but no luck.

Any ideas on what to try?

Thanks

SM.

remove the gpu? its a two second process just unplug pcie and flick the pcie tab on the bottom and remove.

might be psu wattage because its quite low for a 770. i had to replace my ocz 500w for my 280x. but i guess antec has better quality psus

Having a similar issue myself. Was all working fine but on a few occasions when plugging in a USB device the system would suddenly shut down. Occasionally it won't turn on at all. Removing all USB devices doesn't always help get it running again. It seems to turn on and start working again when it feels like it, at the minute it doesn't feel like it!

I tried removing cmos battery but it hasn't solved it.

Does your brothers PC always turn on but turn off again, or does it sometimes just not turn in at all?

This is the first time it had happened, as soon as the headphones were plugged in it instantly shut down and will not restart.

I had this exact problem the other day, though it wasn't when I plugged a USB device in, it just died. My issue was that the PSU went. To be fair it was 4 years 10 months old which was handy as it had a 5 year warranty. CoolerMaster had the RMA turned round in under 2 weeks.

Edit: have you watched the back of the PSU during boot? Mine was flashing red when it was restarting, other times when it wouldn't even power on the light was constantly lit up red.
