So my PC has just died a death so need to get a new one soonish, not too bad as i have a linux server for email and internet as this is where im posting from.

So what i need is a new PC i have HDD, DVD Write, Keyboard, Mouse

So i need CPU, Mobo, RAM, GFX, case and PSU since I had a shuttle

Would need 2 gig of RAM, decent gfx card since I play games at 1600 x 1200 and I will be using Vista. Have in the past been Intel/Ati but willing to look at other options.

My budget isnt huge due to the purchase of a new car.

So any ideas??

Cheers

Thanks for that, looks pretty good might change hte 1950 for an 8800 though since I dont think it will cost that much more and rather have a DX10 card since I use Vista

Well weather you get the X1950 or the 8800 i doubt that PSU will be up to the job. I go for a Tagan 530 Easycon or the corsair 520w and drop down to the E6300 to fit it into budget :)

So how big a PSU would be needed for:

2 x sata hdd
1 x Dual layer dvd writer
2Gb ram
Core2 6400
Either
X1950 or 8800GTS?

Cheers

WTF? The FSP is more than good enough for an X1950PRO.

For the 8800, go for the 520W Corsair.

Copied from the Asus website page for the X1950 Pro:

Power Supply Requirement:
1. 450-Watt power supply or greater, 30 Amps, 12 volt rail is recommended (assumes fully loaded system)
2. For CrossFire™: 550 watt power supply or greater, 38 Amps, 12 volt rail

Not needed.

Dunno, might be cutting it close, far as i can see its only 14A and 15A on the 12v 1 and 2 rails for the Blue storm II 400W.

That's rubbish- any good quality 400W PSU will power that ;) The Enermax 400W can be had for only £3 more which would be perfectly capable of powering it and you have the added bonus that it's modular :) If you do want to go for an 8800 though then I would go for the Corsair 520W as masslac said. Masslac has done a pretty nice spec there although I would change the motherboard for the Asus P5N-E SLi.

Do OCuK still stock OCZ Modstreams? Great PSU for the price - and its modular
Not at present, but the FSP is just as good only not modular in design.

Anyway, 8800 + Corsair = Win. :)
