Got up today to find that when i turn my pc on it lights up (case lights) and all the fans are running from case, graphics card and cpu but the pc not starting it doesn't even go through the bios or try to load windows

So wondered what the best plan of attack is as have a spare cpu and memory to try so was thinking first to reset bios then change memory and then try other cpu but wondered what else i could try

Strange thing is after playing about it restarted then when i put back together went to start again and it's died :(

Whats the spec? Sounds like cpu. If it was ram or gfx youd get beeps.

Then again after reading through your post again it could also be mobo if the fans are working then it might not be the psu but could be the mobo. Are the fans connected to the psu or mobo?

So far have tried different cpu, memory
Case fans are running connected to psu plus cpu and graphics card fan are all running ok

Not getting any beeps or anything

P4 3.4 Prescott
Asus P4C800E Deluxe
Asus AX800XT/TVD/256MB ATI Radeon X800 XT PE Platinum
2 GB OCZ PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum
2 Hitachi Deskstars 80GB / 250GB
Nebula TV Card
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Asus Wi-Fi adapter
Plextor Premium
ASUS DRW-1814BLT
Toshiba DVD-Rom

first thing checked in POST is the CPU AFAIR. if the cpu is gone the system will not get to the memory etc

System was put together from when the Asus P4C800E Deluxe came out so a few years old now but have never had any problems with it but could be old age :(

Cheers all for the help :)

It's unlikely that the CPU will stop working like that IMHO, if the machine has been working fine for so long. Far more likely that the PSU will deteriorate over time (perhaps a leaking capacitor) to a point where it can't properly power the system anymore and the motherboard wont post. Hence why I asked what PSU. His "playing about" working seems to confirm that it might be a marginal power issue IMHO.

Just tried different psu which didn't help plus i swapped the cpu over again and even after running both for about 5 mins there stone cold so think for some reason theres no power going too them for some reason

Oh well time to buy a quad core mobo :)

Only thing i find strange is that it stopped working i had a poke about it turned on and worked ok then when i turned off it wouldn't start again
Only thing i can think of is something was on the way out it had one more go then died for good

Cheers all for your time trying to work this problem out :)
