Hi been looking around but not got a clue what current racing games are, prefer forza over turismo on consoles, and have a logitech G25 wheel and pedals. Seen iracing (iirc) but looks pricey?

iRacing is very good but as you said, it is a bit pricey. rFactor 2 isn't a bad alternative and the only other sim option is pCars I think which is pretty but I don't think it feels that great.

Google ' Auto Club Revolution'

It is the closest racing game on PC to things like Gran turismo and Forza that you will find.

eurotruck sim2 is good, but omg its hard reversing with a trailer!!!

other games are
wrc2 fia world rally champ
split second
blur
colin mcrae dirt 2 and 3
need for speed most wanted
need for speed hot pursuit

Iracing is by far the best, in a league of its own... It's the complete package and nothing else currently comes close. I've spent about £500 on it in total ( content and subscription ) and I don't regret it for one second, infact I'd say its incredible value given the quality of the product/service and community. You're not just paying for the sim, it's the organised service with incredibly deep stat tracking/organised officially licensed series and most of all clean and competitive online racing.

Asetto Corsa is also worth getting when it comes out in 2-3 months, it will be priced like a normal game and have offline modes with ai unlike iracing. The physics are done by Kunos who made Netkar Pro which arguably has the best tyre model seen in any sim.

Pcars is turd IMO, avoid. Rfactor 2 is decent but its sill very rough around the edges and is dated in many ways.

Seriously though... Iracing is where it's at, you'll never want to play anything else once you sign up.

Agree with Jaynos - iRacing is the only option if you want pure sim action. It's incredibly well organised but you only get out what you put in. Put in the seat time and you'll have some amazing racing, just stroll up to and expect to race wheel to wheel and you'll be a menace (and probably crash out early on).

It's that good that I keep renewing my subscription and buying new cars and tracks although I haven't managed to sit down and play it properly for two years (I blame the kids and long running building works on the house!). I still live in hope that I'll return to it soon.

Euro Truck Simulator 2 :) :p

Thats good, but not quite as good as...

Sim wise iRacing, as mentioned, is top of the pile, I've been a member there since 2008 just before the public opening and own all the content, over $1000 spent but well worth it imo.

There is also:
rFactor 2 which is ok, for me the lack of an online system like iRacing's ruins this for me, bought it and not been touched in a loooong time (in fact price-per-hour iracing probably beats it, even at many times the cost )

pCARS, pretty car graphics, average at all other graphics, mediocre at best 'feel', not a fan.

Assetto Corsa, could be awesome, the netKar physics are extremely good, and it looks stunning, just need them to actually release the thing, and then 'finish' it, netKar's biggest problem was that it was never really finished, so a bit of history from that developer...

Then there are the older, but still 'ok', and generally very cheap sims:
Race '07, GTR2, LFS, rFactor 1 etc etc

But that's if you really want a sim, lets face it Forza and Gran Turismo are not sims, a sim will suck up months of your life just practicing to get even semi-competitive, and then you'll have some of the best/closest/nerve-wracking racing to be had in a game, and/or some of the most frustrating races :p

I think RaceRoom Racing Experience is pretty good - I've been playing a bit of the closed beta and would say it's up there with all the good sims (it's a SimBin title anyway). If you fancy trying it out, I managed to get into the beta about a day after signing up.

And as has been said, rFactor 2 and iRacing are among the best sim racing games, with iRacing probably being the best.

cheers for the links guys, just doing a sweep down my road whilst raceroom downloads, then i'll load the cars on the euro truck transporter and head off to nurburgring :D
