Hi,

I recently purchased a Panasonic TH-37PV500B 37" Plasma at a bargain price and I've built a Media Center to go along side it. The TV has a D-SUB connection built in, so the computer is running through that for the time being. I've bought a DVI to HDMI cable thinking that it would be a simple case of plugging them in and it would work out of the box, however that doesn't seem to have happened!

I set the TV to show the HDMI signal, but the screen remains blank. Any have any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Do I need to set an option in the graphics drivers or something?

After failing to get it working, I checked the TV manual which said the HDMI wasn't designed for use with PCs, however I fail to see why it wouldn't work

Doesn't the manual provide a list of which resolutions are supported through HDMI? One thing you could try, is with ATIs CCC (and maybe there's a way to do it with an nvidia card too) you can tell it to add HDTV modes to the list of displays, so it will add a mode for 720p, 1080i etc, and presumably your plasma will accept at least one of these modes through HDMI.

alternatively you can plug the pc into your tv through a VGA cable, it's still a digital signal.

It's already running through VGA (D-SUB) connection.

The native resolution of the tv is 1024x768 so I don't think it will run properly :( I managed to get the picture showing through the HD cable, but it looked a bit odd!

I'll just stick with the VGA connection at the moment as it does the job. It will leave the HDMI port free for something else

Just to point out that the DVI to HDMI connection to connect pc to the tv will have very limited results unless you have a TV that very specifically supports something like that.

Picking up anything from the shop and hoping it will work isn't gonna happen i'm afraid and Plasmas are worse in this respect than LCD i think.

Only handful of Tvs will do 1:1 pixel mapping at native res over HDMI, most will suggest using VGA which tends to be good for the most part.

I only bought the TV from a mate because it was a bargain, so I'm not too fussed that it doesn't work through HDMI :) VGA is crystal clear but I just wanted to see if DVI to HDMI was possible and if it was any better. The DVI to HDMI cable was only £3 aswell, so not big loss :D

Thanks for the help/advice though :)
