Hi I am looking to build a high end gaming rig in order to last 2-3 years on Max game settings. I am familiar with building machines as a I work as an IT technician but haven't build a gaming rig for a while and looking for a bit of advice on it.

Parts:

  1. Case - Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition £210
  2. CPU - i73770k Overclocked to 4.5ghz+£245
  3. GPU - Nvidia GTX 690 £779
  4. SSD - 256gb Crucial M4 £130--CHANGED to Intel 330 240GB £161.99
  5. PSU - Corsair 1000w+ (in order to futureproof when add gpu for SLi) £150
  6. Motherboard - Asus Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard £165
  7. CPU Cooler- Corsair cwch60 water cooler £50
  8. Memory - Corsair Vengence 4 x 4 GB black 1600 mhz (going to overclock) £75
  9. Mouse - Cyborg Rat 7 £70

Total Price = £1876

I will be using my 27 inch iMac as my monitor which is 27 inch at 2560 x 1440. I will be connecting to this over mini dp.

My main questions/points are:

Do you think this will be future proof for at least 2 years? This is my main concern future proofing the rig, as I would rather spend the money now, than upgrade earlier.

Any pointers to changing parts?(especially concerning the motherboard)

I choose 690 over 2 680 as it actually works out cheaper from my research by about £100. Any idea how good the 690 will be on 2560 x 1440 in ultra settings?

Not choose a keyboard yet, as trying to find a white one I actually like.

Got plenty of old HDDs to add to the case so I won't be buying any of these.

I am on the max of my budget really.

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

The link below shows a rough performance guide for the 690, it should handle anything thrown at it.

You could opt for the 3570K cpu to save a little with minimal performance loss.

Hi tamzzy, I know I could build a rig to run at this res for less but my main concern is future proofing. I want to be able to play games at Ultra for at least 2 years without any problems.

Forgot to mention I have a blue ray r/w drive. Might take a look into the 3570k.However from past experience crucial SSD's perform much better than most other brands.

And the one thing I am set in stone on is the case because it just looks so awesome. I know I could easily cut down over £100 just by choosing another case but I just love the aesthetics of it.

Aww yes I see the Crucial SSDS have pretty much the same read speeds but almost half the write speeds.

Il defiantly change to the intel/samsung ssd then, any personal preference between samsung and intel?
