Hi, looking for some advice for a friend, he said he wants a PC mostly for 4k video editing. I'm not really up to date with components etc so this is probably overkill but I've had a go:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £992.95 (includes shipping: £14.10)

His budget is £1000 ish, but less is better

Any suggestions?

Ryzen may be a better bet for Video Editing rather than the i7-7700k, although if you stick with the i7 I'd suggest going for the 8700k :)

you get free shipping, so practically within £5 of budget
in return, you get 8c16t processor, 32gb ram, massive 500gb ssd + 4tb hdd (nas drive for better reliability)
stock cooler is good for a small overclock too...
all in a nice small-ish matx form factor :)

this is assuming that your friend won't use the computer for much gaming. the gt 1030 is enough for video editing (cuda), but wont run the latest and greatest AAA titles at full tilt, unfortunately (it will run games at low-med settings though)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,016.58 (includes shipping: £11.70)

if you are running Adobe Prem then intel gets the favoured treatment

using Tamz system above but to intel

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,056.08 (includes shipping: £13.20)

check software being used but more then likely ryzen system will be the better choice for most programs

top-down cooler to cool VRMs and stock intel wouldn't handle 4.3Ghz boost for long periods of time

I think he's using Adobe so intel probably better. Looks good but missing the GPU there. Would the GT 1030 Tamz suggested be good enough?

Been a while since I've looked into editing , but does Adobe Prem have GPU acceleration ?
Could indeed benefit from it or other editing software

Either system will smash it ! Though Ryzen will do it cooler ! Haha with the edition of dropping zen2 in 2019/20 straight into the board
