i've basically been assigned a task to either build or find a PC (with monitor/speakers etc) but after having a look around i am left feeling more then slightly confused

the PC basically needs to have good audio capabilitys, needs 768MB+ RAM, 60GB+ HDD and a 2.6GHz+ CPU... and it needs to be as cheap as possible

i've looked around and the price seems to be the same for building a PC and buying a package..
Just hoping that someone out there could help :)

thanks

For music and photo creation, you'd be nuts to go for only a 60Gb HDD and 768Mb RAM.

Hard drives of around 250Gb start at around £50 and you will need this extra space if you are actually creating/ sampling music. Of course it all depends how serious you are about sound quality as to how much this applies to you but it would be a crime in this day and age (IMHO) to not have an X-Fi card in a dedicated music PC.

Also the "2.6GHz" spec of your CPU is meaningless today as an FX60 runs at 2.6GHz and so does an FX55 and a 2.6GHz P4c Northwood core and a conroe 6700 - ALL TOTALLY different prices and performance with architectures best suited to different tasks.

Be more specific in your needs and budget and I'm sure we'll all do our best to help!

MB comes with pci-e GMA900 graphics card and system can be upgraded to conroe later. 1gb memory should make up for Celeron cpu to a certain degree.

Balance of money can be spent on speakers, monitor, etc.

No thanks, gotta job, just sounded like a budget build and most of the time prebuilds are made up of components that are not really upgradable. I hate seeing joe public getting suckered into buying them ;)
