Morning guys,

My dad's after a PC basically for browsing the internet and using Photoshop. I want him to have something decent as opposed to getting something kind of entry level. His computer he has now is coming up 10 years old, so this one needs to last!

The only requirements are that it needs to be relatively small, quiet, have a backup disc, and cost £500-£600.

I've specced this, but it's come in a tad expensive, so if anyone could offer any suggestions to shave off a few quid (and maybe suggest something else if what I've chosen isn't going to work), I'd appreciate it.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-4440 3.10GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £139.99
1 x ASRock H97M Pro4 Intel H97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £68.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H55 Quiet Liquid CPU Cooler £59.99

Total : £545.90 (includes shipping : Ex.VAT).

Looking forward to hearing from you guys,

I've just noticed that that case needs a slimline optical drive, which are way overpriced. I may have to change the case tbh - reviews of it aren't glorious either.

Hi guys,

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I spoke to him about your recommendations and he's set on an i5, even though that may be overkill. Would what I've specced myself be a good setup in your opinions? I think he's happy with the price, as am I.

deano-5, thanks very much!! I didn't see that for some reason!

icant make a basket atm as im on the tablet but using this bundle as the base should save you a couple of quid. Also i wouldnt bother with after market cooling on that i5, the stock intel cooler is planty good enough for that, or failing that grab something like the arctic cooling apine rev 2, ive had a few of these and they are really good little coolers for the sake of a fiver. Also very quiet too.

meant to delete that and post this instead as i was actually on my office pc via rdp, duh!

anyway, i5 and ssd under 400, use the rest of budget to get some better parts, maybe a better case w/some quality fans if noise is a concern.

**edit** Forgot about the "small" part, though it's not a massive tower. Just swap it out for any reasonably priced mATX cube/tower and you'll be good to go.
