I'm looking at getting my son his first PC for his room.

Want it to be for general work and light gaming (He's only 5)

Not looking at spending mega bucks.

Would an AMD A10 5700 be alright for this or would the A10 6800K be loads better?

Just looking at 8GB 1600mhz ram

2 TB HDD

22" monitor

I want to be able to play a few games ie. Minecraft maybe a few slightly more intense games as well.

got exactly the same spec im looking at atm but only £388.93 :)

you reckon that will be good for what i need it for then?

If he's only 5 why don't get a used dual-quad core for £100-£150,
its likely he will only be learning how to use it. why spend so much

I have to admit I haven't put a lot of thought into this yet (my daughter is only 3) but I'm wondering whether I want a prepubescent child to have access to a computer in a private part of the house.

Maybe this thread isn't the place for that conversation, but it just popped into my head!

Can't they use your current machine or build one for them but put it in a place were you can keep a eye on them :p

I would say no, let her use the family pc, it not like she has homework to do.

Its only £300 for the pc not exactly gonna break the bank.

I'm going to block all of that kind of stuff anyway. And he's not going to be left totaly on his own with it for very long.

True but is there a need ?
if he's good with computers then yeah ok but if he's like most kids at 5,
I think your better off getting something he can mess about with.
if its going to have internet I would put the pc in a family area,

if that's the case, why not have the 2nd pc downstairs ?
you could also use it, show him how to use it and keep an eye on things.

He's good with that kind of thing he's had an iPad and a ds for a couple of years now and its not enough for him he's getting bored too easily on them.

He is also home schooled so needs a pc to do his own work.

We don't have any room downstairs only have a small house and my daughter would wreck / stop him working downstairs.
