Hi all. I will be ordering a few new components for my PC in order to try overclock my proc. Could you just skim through (especially the mobo, ram and PSU) to see if they are up for the job, and if not, what would.

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6320
Motherboard - MSI G41M-P25 Intel G41 (Socket 775) DDR3 microATX
RAM - OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low-Voltage Dual Channel
Graphics - ATI x1300 Pro
PSU - OcUK Swift 550W Silent Power Supply
Case - Coolermaster Elite 334 Midi Case

Also, I would like to upgrade the graphics but am unsure on what the case can accommodate. Would something like a 4870 be ok in that size case?

Thanks all!

How much of that stuff do you already own, and which bits are you buying now?

First thing I can see is that PSU is no good.

Well you certainly need a GFX upgrade, so all you really have is the CPU.

I don't think it's worth building a new 775 system any more. Have you thought about starting from scratch? An AM3 board with an Athlon II X3 would be a good budget starting point. You'd then have room for further upgrades whereas the 775 is a complete dead end.

Blue160: its purely for experience of overclocking, just want a nice cheap build - hens the super cheap PSU etc :P

As for the graphics, I play some old games on it so it does the job, but I will put a 2nd hand card in soon.

Fair enough. You need a good PSU for a stable overclock though. Also get a decent cooler. A Freezer Pro7 is only about £15. Apart from that, as long as that board has all the overclocking options in the bios you're good to go. Happy overclocking :)

any recommendation on a PSU. I know OCZ/Corsair are the top, but don't want to spend a lot tbh! :P Also, how many watts? will be looking to have the above spec with a 4870 pref :)

I'm afraid I don't know much about PSU's. I got the one in my sig from reading reviews. Hopefully someone else will be more helpful.

Sorry, mate but here's the reality.

That mobo won't do better than 350Mhz FSB at best, probably far less. Plus that cpu only has a 7x multi. The very best you'll get out of it is therefore, 2.45Ghz. In reality I suspect you won't even make 2.35Ghz.

Truly what you are planning is money down the drain. Far better to get an AMD AM3 motherboard plus an Athlon II x3 450. That will hit 3.4-3.5Ghz and probably even higher. I'd forget trying to oc that E6320 and especially if you have to buy a new 775 mobo to do it.
