Hi all,

about 5 years ago got some good advice here on a new PC which has worked flawlessly for me, hoping ive not jinxed that...

My PC is almost entirely used just for VR in iRacing and AC, little bit of Dirt Rally and sometimes some really intense minesweeper... currently using:

Valve index for VR (which i can only get 60hz/fps from)
Gigabyte - Z390 Aorus Pro-cf
i9 9900k
nvidia 2080 Super
64gb 3200 ram (was running some SQL locally, not needed 64 anymore)
2x m.2 drives

The powersupply (and cpu?) cannea take any more so thinking of replacing the machine, probably with a prebuilt from OC - id rather not spend more than 3k - however the question is with an index and iRacing am i likely to see any improvement? Or am i flogging an incapacitated mule? any help much appreciated.

Word on the street is that Nvidia is the clear winner when it comes to iRacing in VR.

If I had £3K to spend I'd probably try to pick up a 4090FE and then build the system around that.

Youtube has plenty of benchmark comparison videos for running iracing with different gpu/cpu setups.

I don't see why you are unable to get above 60Hz.
Have you been through the entire Nvidia control panel and checked it isn't capped somewhere? Or even in SteamVR settings.

I used to play VR on a Vive and 9700K, 1070 GPU and hit 90Hz in everything. Actually tried my friends Valve Index on this setup at the time and I could even force it to 120Hz. I stuck with my Vive as I didn't feel it was a big enough upgrade for the price. Although I did get myself the Index controllers to replace the god awful Vive wands.

Something doesn't seem right in regards to some setting.

actually after I posted that it got me thinking i must be missing something as most people online with a similar spec seemed to be getting 90-120, so last night i ended up reinstalling iracing and it has allowed me to run at 120, dropping a few frames at longbeach but not too bad, i wonder if i changed the limit in an .ini file in the past... definitely smoother now

Haha. Great stuff. I was going to say that you should be able to run VR pretty well on your specs.
Glad you got it sorted ;)

im still quite confused with the myriad of options in the iracing graphics menu, some of which have no bearing on VR, there are a few forum posts out there detailing it but even posts/vids from 6 months ago have changed in iracing since. The addition of rain coming soon though it making me think an upgrade might be required.

Anything in particular you are struggling with?

Some of the changes don't take effect until you close the session or iracing completely.

Have you downloaded Open XR Toolkit?

really it is about what options make a difference in VR for iracing, one of my m8's said a lot of the options only affect the replay or monitor based version. I haven't tried the toolkit, will check that out, I did manage to get the index up to 120fps but Longbeach has destroyed that and it seems to struggle and then slip back to 60
